DAY 01

Magnificent oaks, flower-lined streets, eclectic shops, and delicious eateries adorn the downtown area while the many parks and trails highlight the beauty of Mobile Bay. Our weekend in Fairhope itinerary highlights some of the best accommodations, popular eateries, and favorite local attractions.
While few properties can boast the scenic backdrop and activities of the beautiful Grand Hotel Resort and Spa, for the ultimate in convenience and walk-ability, try one of these downtown locations and be immersed in the middle of it all.
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Fairhope, this hotel is a favorite for both small groups and large parties. When visiting for Mardi Gras, festivals, business functions, or a wedding, it is the prime place to be. Shops, restaurants, and art galleries are all within walking distance and a large parking garage sits directly behind it for easy traveling.
Gaining in popularity with Fairhope travelers are the many cottages and vacation rentals downtown. If you are seeking a little extra space or additional privacy, there is a vast amount of rental options available. With a variety of sizes and styles, there is sure to be a space that fits your needs.
For your first night in, there is no need to rush. Come settle in with a relaxing stroll downtown. If you are lucky enough to visit on the First Friday of the month, it is a great time to explore the art galleries and shops after hours. During the winter months, the light display is magnificent from Thanksgiving through Mardi Gras while spring and summer bring the most beautiful flower displays. Make reservations in advance at Thyme on Section or Locals in the Alley, for a delectable fine dining experience in a casual setting.
DAY 02
Begin your morning at Latte Da, located at the Page and Palette book store. There is no better place to feel like a local than this comfortable coffee shop. Grab a new book, some fresh pastries, and a seat outside to people watch before exploring downtown.
When you are ready to take on the day, make your way to the Fairhope Welcome Center. The friendly ambassadors are there to help you plan your day and love to meet new visitors. There is also a public restroom located within the facility should you need a stopping place later in the day. The next stop is the Fairhope Museum of History. This museum is open to the public year round and free of charge. A helpful volunteer will gladly take you through the collections and exhibits or feel free to explore on your own.
Peruse around the city and take in the sights and sounds. The antique shops are some of the best in the area and there is a shop for every type of interest. Head on over to The Fairhope Store to grab the ultimate traveling souvenir. If you are interested in art, there are many galleries throughout the city celebrating local and regional artists in our area.
For lunch, head on down to the Fairhope French Quarter. This picturesque courtyard is home to Panini Pete’s and a few local shops. On the other side of downtown, try out Maryann’s Deli at The Mill – one of the most family-friendly establishments in town. Finish your meal with a Fairhope Float from Mr. Gene’s Beans. This sweet treat will give you a caffeine boost and sugar fix all in one cup.
If you are into craft brews, travel outside of the downtown area for a nice break in the day. The Fairhope Brewing Company offers 15 brews on tap including some occasional and small batch brews. Try out a flight to find your next favorite craft.
Finish off the day at Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina, where the food is only surpassed by the magnificent sunset views or Gambino’s Italian Grill for Italian comfort food in a relaxed setting.
DAY 03
A trip to Fairhope is not complete without a visit to the Fairhope Municipal Pier. This pier is considered the “town square” of Fairhope and features a fountain, rose garden, duck pond, and beach. While you can certainly visit it during any part of your trip, on Sunday mornings it is typically less crowded making it one of the best times to take in the beautiful bay views.
Many shops and restaurants are closed or have limited hours on Sunday so it is best to get your shopping in on Saturday or another day of the week.
Make reservations in advance at Tamara’s Downtown or The Fairhope Inn and Restaurant for a delicious Sunday brunch. For more traditional breakfast selections, try Julwin’s Restaurant – one of Fairhope’s oldest eateries or 2 Sisters Bakery and Deli – a local favorite along the bay.
Finish your trip with a visit to the iconic Grand Hotel Resort and Spa. Visitors are welcome to eat at one of the many restaurants on site or take in the sights of this beautiful facility. Opting for the Sunday jazz brunch at The Grand Hall is a popular choice so make sure to get your dining reservations in early. Each day at 3:45pm, there is a Civil-War replica cannon firing celebrating the history of the hotel and honoring our military. Afterwards, head over to the Grand Hall for a daily lagniappe of tea and cookies.
