Mr. Gene’s Beans has been a local favorite for sweet treats in Fairhope for over 25 years. Regardless of the time of day or season, it’s not surprising to find a line of eager patrons lining up for a cool and refreshing snack. Upon entering this quaint ice cream/coffee shop, you will be greeted by one of the friendly staff members or even the owner herself – who isn’t Mr. Gene by the way. The original owner sold the business, but lucky for us, this beloved ice cream shop still has the same delightful look and feel. 

For an icy treat, choose from a large variety of ice cream flavors, sherbet, or frozen yogurt. Available in an assortment of cup sizes, cake cones, waffle cones or sundaes, there’s a size for every appetite. Ice cream toppings include syrups, sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts, candy, and whipped cream. Both small and large sundaes include the choice of two toppings and whipped cream. Toppings can also be added to any ice cream cup.  If you are in a hurry, drop in for a grab and go item from the cooler in the front which is stocked with individually wrapped frozen treats, popsicles, and homemade ice cream sandwiches.

What can be better than a treat that is salty and sweet? Along with their delicious ice cream offerings, Mr. Gene’s Beans is also a favorite for gourmet popcorn options in Fairhope. Popcorn sizes range from small, medium, large, and jumbo and can be purchased as either buttered or coated. Coated popcorn flavors vary, but may include these popular flavors – Cheddar, Caramel, BBQ Bacon, Dill Pickle, Fairhope Pop, and Jalapeno Cheddar.

Operating as an ice cream and coffee shop, Mr. Gene’s Beans opens early each morning to help you get your caffeine fix. The coffee menu has both hot and cold options as well as hot tea. The hot coffee menu includes the coffee of the day, cafe au lait, cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas. Cold drink options include iced coffee, iced lattes, iced mochas, iced tea, and lemonade. 

Fairhoper’s Favorite – For an extra special treat, try a Fairhope Float which includes a combination of frozen yogurt, coffee, and whipped cream.

Additionally, a variety of individually wrapped candy, coffee, syrups, and t-shirts can be purchased as well. Once you have selected your snack or treat, table seating and counter seating is available inside. Table seating is also available outside on the deck with umbrellas for shade.

Mr. Gene’s Beans ice cream and coffee shop is conveniently located at 302 De La Mare Avenue in downtown Fairhope, Alabama. De La Mare Avenue is a one way street with access beginning at Section Street and ending on Church Street. 

Single car parking is available at Mr. Gene’s Beans for guests purchasing items to go. Street parking on De La Mare Avenue, as well as surrounding streets, is available on a first come first serve basis for downtown shops and restaurants. A public parking lot is available behind De La Mare with access off of Church Street. The parking lot is north of the Fairhoper’s Community Park, which makes for a fun stop for the kids before dropping by for an ice cream break!
