Established in 1979, the Fairhope Tea Plantation is a thriving tea farm that produces both black and green tea, as well as offers small private group tours. At the time of this writing, it is also the only tea farm in the state of Alabama. The plantation is located on private property and drop-in guests are not permitted.

How to Get There

Travel about 15 minutes south of downtown Fairhope, down a single winding road through live oaks with hand-painted pictures leading the way and you’ll arrive at the Fairhope Tea Farm. Your host, local tea connoisseur Donnie Barrett, will be ready to greet you as well as a slew of friends, both furry and feathered. The property is filled with a luscious landscape of plants, koi pond, and peacocks, roaming freely through the grounds. 

Tea Farm Tour

Group tours are limited to 3 guests or less – which happens to be the max amount of occupants that can fit on the golf cart. Tours take place daily at 1:00pm, which must be scheduled in advance. The cost of the tour is $10 cash per person, which will be paid at the end of the tour. To schedule your tour, please call Donnie directly at (251) 928-0919. 

Upon arrival, guests are offered a cup of the house tea and a place to sit under the covered porch. While enjoying your tea, Donnie will explain the history of the tea farm and tea making process from start to finish. 

After tea time, guests will board the golf cart to explore the farm. Rows of tea plants can be viewed as Donnie continues the discussion on plant conditions and other tea plant facts. When the tour is over, guests will head back to the porch to view the gift shop, a small box with tea available for purchase. 

Weather

The tea farm tour only takes place during fair weather. As your tour gets closer, a decision can be made on whether or not the tour will take place as scheduled.

Fairhope Tea Plantation is located at 12424 Lyter Lane in Fairhope, Alabama. From downtown Fairhope, take US Highway 98 (Greeno Road) for approximately 7.5 miles. At the stop sign, continue going straight for .5 mile. The road will turn slightly to the left and become County Road 11. Take County Road 11 for 1 mile. Make a right onto Lyter Lane. Continue on Lyter Lane for .6 miles and you will end at the Fairhope Tea Plantation.

Parking is available on site for guests who are touring the tea farm. Reservations are required to take part in the tour.
